Maybe. Then again, maybe not. One thing is for certain, however, and that is you shouldALWAYSSEEK THE ADVICE OF A PROFESSIONAL BEFORE INITIATING ANY EXERCISE PROGRAM!
It is all too often that a patient comes tomy clinic with back pain that has worsened over time because they have been doing the wrong exercises. When I ask why they are doing their specific exercises the answer is usually one of the following:" I thought you were supposed to do sit-ups if you have back pain" or "My friend had the same symptoms and told me these exercises helped."
Suffice it to say thatback pain is not back pain. Despite the similarity of symptoms that may exist among various back-related injuries (spondylosis, spondylolisthesis, spondyitis, sciatica, herniated disk, piriformis syndrome, facet joint arthritis to name a few)it is essential that the correct diagnosis be made. Exercises that are indicated for a herniated disk, for example, will worsen a spondylolisthesis even though symptoms may be similar.
Do the right thing for yourself and consult with you r physical therapist upon the onset of any back pain. Quicker and proper diagnosis is ultimately the key to recovery.
